Roxann Souci grew up in a small town in Maine, the only child of French Canadian parents. Frequently left alone, Souci developed the qualities of self-reliance and comfort in solitude, which have served her well as an artist.
Souci began drawing at the age of four. She observed the nature that surrounded her, which filled her eyes with color and patterns - precursor to the artwork she makes now.
"My work is very physical. This has been challenging because of multiple hand surgeries. I had to change the way I paint to accommodate certain physical limitations.
I want people to view my paintings and feel joy. I love the process of painting. I love the creative challenge, the problem solving. I'm tenacious. When it all comes together, it makes me happy and excited."
