Roxann Souci
My inspiration begins with my thoughts about someone or something I love. I work on multiple paintings simultaneously as I explore the visual manifestation of that love. Through color, I express my feelings. Color is visceral. It is organic. I want my use of color to touch the viewer emotionally.

I don't use easels. Typically I work on larger scale works. My favorite size is a 1 to 4 horizontal ratio. The tools I use are more likely to come from hardware stores than art suppliers. I rarely use brushes as I apply layer upon layer of color, creating new colors in the process. I have experimented with acrylic paints for years to develop the right formula for the results I want - a layers of translucency suggesting hidden depths of emotion.

This layering process is integral to my work. My paintings find completion when I break through all the layers to expose the underlying hues - my signature colors of bright, warm shades of red, orange, or yellow - like the heat of the sun. This process has been intuitive and deeply personal – a symbol of optimism in the face of adversity. It is a metaphor for my life.

My work seeks to reach the intuitive in the viewer; to access the sensual; to provoke thought; and to delight the senses. I want to connect emotionally. To make a beautiful work of art, to bring joy to the viewer, to achieve that connection - this is my desire. When my work accomplishes this, I am satisfied.
